Feeding Therapy

Eating is a part of everyone’s daily routine, and when a child is a picky eater or has difficulty eating, mealtimes can become stressful. At Growing in Motion we understand the stress that this can cause and are committed to working with the child and the parents to develop a holistic and family-centered plan to best support your needs.

Difficulties with feeding stem from a variety of sources. A child with sensory processing needs may have trouble tolerating food textures, while children with low tone may lack the oral motor skills needed to bite through and chew the food.

Using the SOS (Sequential Oral Sensory) Approach, our therapists use play and a systematic desensitization approach to feeding that makes eating fun!

Steps To Eating - Abbreviated.png

Did you know…?

There are more than 30 steps to eating! Often times we want to skip right to the end  and have children “just eat” the food, but in the process key steps are being by-passed. Following the SOS method, our therapists will help your child to progress through the hierarchy of eating, starting with something as simple as visually tolerating  the food sitting on the plate. The Steps to Eating Model illustrated here is an abbreviated version of the systematic feeding approach developed by Dr. Kay Toomey.
