Orthotics

Support your kids’ body alignment:

Orthotics and braces are both specialized devices designed to support and protect different parts of the body. They are customized devices that are usually worn on the feet, ankles or knees and they can help with following conditions:

·       Flat feet

·       High arch

·       Poor alignment

·       Toe walking

·       Knee hyperextension

·       Crouching

·       In-, and out toeing

Stability, Mobility, Independence:

As adults we often take our stability, mobility, and independence for granted, but we came a long way developing those skills as kids. Along with physical therapy, incorporating orthotics and braces into your child's treatment plan can be helpful for their progress. These devices provide necessary support and protection, helping to avoid future complications related to body alignment.

One example: Above ankle brace such as the toe walking Supramalleolar orthosis (SMO)

This orthotic is designed to assist children who walk on their toes due to balance or sensory issues. By promoting a regular walking pattern without limiting foot movement, it not only provides stability but also helps support normal gait development. Process of getting orthotics

Our expert therapists will carefully assess your child's orthotic needs during their treatment sessions. If your child could benefit from them, we can help arrange meetings with local orthotists for fittings. After one session, physiotherapist will reevaluate the progress and when needed work with the orthotist to address if there are complications like rubbing or pain. In most cases, orthotics are temporary tools used to support gross motor development. The length of time they are needed can vary from a few weeks up to several years based on the child's diagnosis.

Why pediatric physical therapy?

Children have their own unique world and see themselves as the center of it. That's why we prioritize treating them in their world and making therapy fun for them. We don't just do regular workouts, but rather engage in activities to keep them excited and engaged. This may look like building and going through obstacle courses, pretending to play Indiana Jones, or the floor is lava. Our clinic is equipped with all the necessary tools for kids to play and have fun while receiving treatment. Our focus is on functional movements that are age-appropriate and relevant to playing with family, friends, and/or playground skills, to ensure optimal integration into daily living.

We work in interdisciplinary teams

Our team comprises a range of therapists, including physical, occupational, and speech therapists. We work closely together and understand each other's profession. This allows us to identify the appropriate time to refer to another therapist if necessary for a detailed assessment. Our holistic approach to treatment enables us to view your child's needs from different perspectives, leading to great support for their individual needs.

A chance to connect even more with your child

we create a therapy setting that involves not only the therapist and child but also gives parents the opportunity to participate in the fun activities. This may not only ignite your inner child but also strengthen the relationship with your kid even more. Physical Therapy in pediatrics is far more than just working on the body: it's about creating a positive and supportive environment that nurtures your child's overall well-being.

We help your kid build a healthy foundation for movement:

Building a strong motor foundation as a child is like planting a young tree with deep roots. Just as a tree needs strong roots to grow tall and sturdy, children need a solid motor foundation to develop healthy movement patterns and physical skills. This foundation includes the following essential motor skills:

·       Fine motor

·       Gross motor

·       coordination

·       strength

·       flexibility

·       endurance

·       spatial awareness

·       body awareness

These skills form the basis for more complex movements later in life. Without a strong motor foundation, children may struggle with basic physical activities, leading to limitations later in life. Physical therapy focuses on building a strong motor foundation early on, we help your child develop the necessary physical abilities and confidence to succeed in daily life and any physical activity they want to participate in.
